At first glance, the verdant garden pictured above may look like a scenic countryside park. However, this garden is actually located in the city center. Situated atop the GRAND TREE shopping complex in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, the GRAND GREEN GARDEN is one of the largest rooftop gardens in Japan with an area of approximately 4,300 m2 (46,000 ft2). The garden boasts a wide variety of trees and seasonal flowers that can be enjoyed year round.

Although lemons and other fruits are a common sight in the supermarket, many children haven’t seen fruit growing on a branch. GRAND GREEN GARDEN contains many fruit trees planted to show young children the incredible transformation from flower to fruit.

The next time you’re in the Musashi-Kosugi area, after a fun-filled day of shopping and dining at GRAND TREE, head to the rooftop for a breath of fresh air.
